How to stay healthy during the summer

With the sun dancing in the sky and warm breezes tickling our skin, summer invites us to embrace its joyful spirit. It is a time when we embrace the outdoors with renewed energy. Yet, as the temperatures rise, it is crucial to prioritize our well-being. In this blog post, I will share invaluable insights on how to stay healthy during the summer, allowing us to savor the season while nurturing our bodies and minds!


Hydration: The most crucial aspect of summer health is staying hydrated. The heat and humidity can cause your body to lose water quickly, leading to dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, throughout the day. Avoid sugary drinks and alcohol, as they can dehydrate you more, and for added flavor, infuse it with slices of fresh fruits or herbs. Embrace nature with juicy watermelon, hydrating cucumbers, and sweet berries.

Nourishing Foods: Eating a balanced diet is essential for maintaining health. Summer is a great time to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables high in vitamins and minerals. Take advantage of the farmer's markets and relish the variety of seasonal produce. Avoid heavy meals and opt for lighter options like filling your plate with colorful salads, wholesome grilled vegetables, and lean proteins. Seek out recipes that incorporate cooling herbs like mint and cilantro to refresh your palate. Remember, nourishing your body with wholesome foods is a true act of self-care.

Embrace Outdoor Activities: Summertime invites us to explore the outdoors and immerse ourselves in the natural world. Engage in activities that not only keep you active but also bring you joy. Take a stroll in the park, ride your bicycle along scenic trails, or gather friends for a game of beach volleyball. Regular physical activity is important for overall health. However, during the summer, it's important to adjust your workout routine to accommodate the heat. Try to exercise during the cooler parts of the day, like early morning or late evening. Always remember to hydrate before, during, and after your workout. I personally would incorporate going to the gym as my outdoor activity since I’m always busy.

Sun Safety:  As the sun's warmth shines down, it is vital to protect our skin from its potent rays. Apply sunscreen generously and regularly, opting for a broad-spectrum formula that shields against UV rays. I personally apply my sunscreen every couple of hours for extra protection for my face. You can also protect your face by wearing a hat, sunglasses, and lightweight clothing that covers exposed areas. Seek shade during peak hours when the sun is most intense and remember to nourish your skin with moisturizers and after-sun lotions to replenish its vitality.


As we enjoy the summer, I encourage you to embrace the beauty and vitality of summertime while prioritizing your well-being. Stay hydrated, savor nourishing foods, engage in outdoor activities, protect your skin from the sun's rays, and allow yourself moments of rest and relaxation. By adopting these habits, you will not only stay healthy during the summer, but you will also create lasting memories and cultivate a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.
