There are many outdoor summer activities to do, but you can't do all of them in one summer! In this blog, I'll break it down into the top 5 outdoor activities that are great to try with family and friends. It will provide many health benefits, such as improving heart health and strengthening muscles. These activities will help kick off your summer or end your summer on a good note!

1. Hiking

There are many reasons why hiking is a fun activity to do in the summer! Hiking builds stronger muscles and bones. It also improves your heart health and sense of balance. However, being outdoors in nature can be therapeutic to many people. Studies show being in the sun and fresh air lowers stress levels and soothes the mind. It's an adventure for families to bond and strengthens relationships. One of my plans this summer is exploring national parks and local trails.

2. Kayaking

Kayaking provides all the benefits similar to hiking; however, you're not on land but on water. This is an exciting activity, especially if you enjoy a good challenge with arm workouts! It's a low-impact exercise that improves your strength and flexibility. Anybody can do this activity on rivers, lakes, and the sea. People of all ages can enjoy kayaking because it's an excellent sport for any beginner to learn.

3. Biking

Whether biking for fun or competitively, most people have at least ridden on a bike once in their lifetime. Biking helps improve posture and coordination. It is also a great exercise to strengthen the legs muscles without overstressing the joints. I remember the first time I rode a bike and it took many practices to perfect it! Once you get it down, this motor skill will be stored as a memory which explains how many never forget how to ride a bike.

4. Outdoor Yoga

The pandemic has caused an increase in the popularity of outdoor yoga. Instead of being in a room, I encourage you to try different settings because outdoor yoga can help you deepen your practice and mindfulness. Yoga is an intimate experience so you need to choose a space you can feel comfortable relaxing in. It's a great exercise to replenish depleted energy and enjoy the summer breeze!

5. Beach Volleyball

I'll be honest with you, I'm not a big fan of regular volleyball because the balls are heavy and hit hard. On the other hand, beach volleyball is a lot softer, lighter, and bouncier, providing an extra challenge but a lot of fun! It's a lot easier to learn how to play and gives us an excuse to go near water like a beach or lake. Another reason beach volleyball is so great is that it's a team sport and incorporates teamwork.

I hope this gives you some ideas of activities to do in the summer if you are bored or looking for a fun workout! Nothing beats any activities when you are enjoying yourself to the fullest. You can do these activities alone or with loved ones. It not only provides health benefits to the body and mind, but it's great to take a break from all the busyness that goes on in our daily lives. Make some plans, take a break and enjoy your summer!
